More efficient and responsible fruit production
At Espax we are moving towards more efficient fruit production through solar energy, water reuse and good environmental practices.
Energy efficiency
Solar energy and self-consumption
The installation of self-consumption solar panels, with 2,400 kWp installed , is part of our commitment to more efficient productive activity and more responsible resource management.
This energy supports key processes during the campaign, especially in tasks of conservation, selection and dispatch of fruit, where operational continuity and control are essential to maintain product quality.

Sustainability in the field
Good practices in the field
At Espax, we incorporate sustainable practices from the field to move towards a more responsible and environmentally friendly agricultural production model. We combine biological control techniques, responsible application of plant protection products, and the use of our own resources to care for the crops, the soil, and the environment.
01
Biological control | Mass trapping and mating disruption using pheromones to reduce chemical pesticides and plant protection product residues.
02
Responsible plant protection products | Apply only when necessary and at the right time to protect the crop and the environment.
03
Soil and resources | Pruning waste to improve soil quality and solar panels to reduce fossil fuels.
Water management
Water reuse
Each calibrator incorporates a filtration and treatment system that allows the water used during the process to be reused and extends its useful life within the plant.
This improvement helps optimize a key resource in a high-volume activity and reinforces a more efficient and responsible way of working during the campaign.

Filtered
Water treatment used in calibrators.

Reuse
Longer water life within the process.

Longer shelf life
Lower energy consumption for refrigeration.
Environmental certifications

Good practices backed by certifications
We have the LEAF Mark, GlobalG.AP SPRING and GRASP certifications, which endorse our commitment to more responsible fruit production, both in environmental management and efficient water use as well as in good social practices in the field.
GRASP is implemented on 100% of our farms, reinforcing compliance with labor and social criteria.

Innovation at the service of stone fruit
Espax has participated in the Rural Development Program of Catalonia 2014-2020 through the SOUR-PEACH project, focused on the sustainable control of sour rot in stone fruit.
Project funded through Operation 16.01.01 of Cooperation for Innovation.
